What is plagiarism?

According to the Purdue Online Writing Lab, plagiarism is using someone else's words or ideas without giving them credit.

This can happen intentionally, such as when a musician attempts to pass off another's lyrics as her own.  Or, unintentionally, when a student forgets to cite a web page he used in researching his paper.

Penalities for plagiarism

At EvCC plagiarism is a serious offense.

"Academic cheating, fabrication, facilitating academic dishonesty, or plagiarism" (WAC 132E-120-220) is a Student Conduct Code violation and subject to sanctions up to and including expulsion from the college.
