From Topic to Search Terms

Tips on transforming your ideas for a topic into search terms that can be entered into our databases and Internet search engines.

Search Tips

Each database has its own distinct look, but the strategy for searching them is similar.  You can enter terms in quotes to ensure that the words will be together in the article, such as "deductive reasoning."

You can also use Boolean operators for advanced searches:  (euthanasia OR "assisted suicide" OR "mercy killing") AND (ethics OR ethical OR bioethics OR moral)

OR should be used between terms that are synonyms.

AND joins together different concepts.

Capitalization of the Boolean operators is not required, but is done here for emphasis.
