Using EvCC Nooks Print Page

Nook Check-Outs

NOOK Simple Touch Readers are available at the Library for 22-day check-out by EvCC students only. 

Renewals can be done through the library catalog, in person, or by calling the Circulation Desk at (425) 388-9353 if there is no one waiting for a reader.

Borrowing eBooks from EvCC


Step 1: Create an EBSCOhost Account

You need a free account in EBSCOhost to download and manage your ebooks:

1.  Go to the EBSCOhost eBook collection.

2.  Click on 'Sign In' at the top of the screen.

3.  Click on 'Create a new Account' about halfway down the screen on the left.

4.  Follow the directions to create your account.

Step 2: Create a free Adobe ID

If you don't already have an Adobe Digital ID, you'll need to create one:

1. Go to

2.  Click on 'Don't have an Adobe ID?'

3.  Follow directions to create your account.

Step 3: If NOT in EvCC Library, download Adobe Digital Editions

Library computers already have Adobe Digital Editions installed.

1.  Go to

2.  Follow the directions to download Adobe Digital Editions to your computer.

3.  You will use your Adobe ID to authorize the software.

Step 4: Register your Nook

You'll need to register the Nook to use it.  This can be done on the Nook itself.  You can watch a video tutorial from Barnes & Noble by clicking here

1. Press and hold button on the back of Nook to power up.

2.  Click the raised horseshoe shape at the bottom of the screen.

3.  You'll be prompted to agree to the Terms and Conditions of Nook use.

4.  Select the 'Pacific Time' zone when prompted.

5.  The Nook will then try to connect to a wireless network. 

  • On campus, after a few seconds, it will automatically find the EvCC network.
  • Click on EvCC.
  • Click the connect button.
  • You'll be warned the network is trying to redirect to another page.
  • Accept the redirection.
  • You'll be prompted to accept the EvCC network acceptable use policy.
  • Once you're connected, click the 'Continue with Setup' button.

6.  You'll come to a sign-in page. 

  • If you have a Barnes & Noble account, enter your e-mail address, and password at the top of the screen.
  • If you don't have an account, click the 'Create Account' button.

7.  Enter the information--e-mail, name, password--requested.

8.  You'll be asked to enter credit card information.  This step is optional unless you want to purchase e-books from Barnes & Noble (including free ones).

  • Enter the information requested if you wish.
  • Click 'Skip' on the top right of the screen if you do not want to buy ebooks.


Step 5: Download the EBSCO eBook

1.  Return to the eBook collection.

2.  Search for your book (see Accessing EBSCO eBooks tab for tips).

3.  Click 'Download (Offline)' for the book you've chosen.

4.  Sign into your EBSCO account if prompted.

5.  Follow directions for downloading.

Step 6: Transfer eBook from computer to Nook

1.  The eBook will open in Adobe Digital Editions on your computer.

2.  Connect your Nook to the computer via the USB cord provided.

3.  Click on 'Library' in the top left hand corner.

4.  Make sure the book you wish to transfer is highlighted.

5.  Go to the 'File' pull-down menu at the top of the screen and select 'Copy to Computer/Device--NOOK'

6.  A copy of the eBook will download to your NOOK.

8.  Be sure to safely eject your Nook from the computer to avoid disrupting the download.
